Which environment should I use?

Promoted strongly recommends using the production ("prod") environment for integration and production.

Production Environment

"Prod" is the main environment used during both initial integration and live production. During initial integration, using prod directly saves time and resources; it is unnecessary to use dev if Promoted is not live.

Development Environment

Using the development ("dev") environment is disabled by default and only recommended for use after Promoted is live for users.

For significant changes after launch that require additional integration and correctness testing, Promoted can enable dev on an as-needed basis. Recommendations, model predictions, and other results returned from the dev environment will output arbitrary information; dev is intended to test data connections, not replicate prod behavior.
